Starting off a string of rapid breakdowns of the ACC football schedules.
First up: Boston College.
Conference: Home --- Clemson, Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech; Road --- Duke, Florida State, N.C. State, Wake Forest
Nonconference: Home --- Kent State, Notre Dame, Weber State; Road --- Syracuse
Bye: Week 3
Don’t play: Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina
Must-see: So tempting to choose both the Virginia Tech (Sept. 25) and Notre Dame (Oct. 2) games. Let's give the nod to the game with religious overtones, especially since the Fighting Irish might be reinvigorated with Brian Kelly stalking the sideline.
A favorable setup: Just about everything. From missing three heavyweights from the Coastal Division to four home games to start the season to a second half of the schedule featuring precisely one bowl team from a year ago, Frank Spaziani's team shouldn't get picked lower than third in the Atlantic Division.
And not so much: The trip to Florida State is probably the most unpleasant placing of a game, in the middle of a tough stretch and a week after another road game. But Boston College is fortunate things worked out so well.
The full schedule:
Sept. 4 WEBER STATE
Sept. 11 KENT STATE
Sept. 25 VIRGINIA TECH
Oct. 2 NOTRE DAME
Oct. 9 at NC State
Oct. 16 at Florida State
Oct. 23 MARYLAND
Oct. 30 CLEMSON
Nov. 6 at Wake Forest
