Jordan Williams averaged 10.5 points and 9.5 rebounds for Maryland last week.
And for that, the freshman earned ACC rookie of the week honors from a panel of writers throughout the conference.
(Full disclosure: I am on that panel. And while I don't usually disclose votes, I did choose Williams, one of three nominees in the category).
It is Williams' first rookie of the week honor, and the first for Maryland since Greivis Vasquez won it Feb. 19, 2007.
The folks at InsideMdSports --- that's @InsideMdSports for those looking for a good Twitter page to track --- already came up with some of the more recent Maryland freshmen of the week.
I'll go a little further back. Back, you say? That's right, back beyond ... the year 2000. Let's go all the way back to 1994-95, shall we?
Feb. 1, 2010: Jordan Williams (10.5 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 2.0 spg, 1.5 bpg vs. Miami and Clemson)
Feb. 19, 2007: Greivis Vasquez (15.0 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 8.5 apg, 4.5 spg vs. N.C. State and Clemson)
Jan. 11, 2004: Mike Jones (25 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals vs. UMES)
Dec. 15, 2003: D.J. Strawberry (11.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.5 spg vs. Florida and Pepperdine)
Jan. 24, 2000: Tahj Holden (15.5 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 2.5 bpg vs. Wake Forest and Clemson)
And that's it, at least according to some serious scouring.
Go back to 1993-94, and Joe Smith won it six times.
But in the last 16 years, that's the full list. And it's not bad company for young Mr. Williams.
