The comparison between 2007 Maryland and its current edition earlier today got me thinking about something.
Namely, where does this year's Maryland team stack up compared to its immediate predecessors at this stage of the season.
So let's get to the Spiffy Chart, with all data through Feb. 10 of each season (info courtesy of collegerpi.com):
| Year |
W-L |
RPI |
SOS |
| 2003 | 14-6 | 32 | 35 |
| 2004 | 13-7 | 31 | 14 |
| 2005 | 14-7 | 28 | 28 |
| 2006 | 15-7 | 40 | 22 |
| 2007 | 17-7 | 41 | 38 |
| 2008 | 16-8 | 55 | 26 |
| 2009 | 15-8 | 68 | 50 |
| 2010 | 16-6 | 45 | 43 |
Conclusions?
Well, Maryland's in better shape than it was the last two years. It's in comparable shape to 2007 and also 2006, though the data doesn't account for players becoming academically ineligible.
Perhaps most notable is that Maryland hasn't had as few as a half-dozen losses on this date since the year after the national title season. Just one more shred of evidence to suggest this really is the most impressive team to ply its trade in College Park since 2003.
