Kickergate 2010 is continuing.
Just five days before Maryland's opener against Navy, the Terrapins haven't sorted out the kicking situation. But reading the tealeaves, it seems more and more likely punter Travis Baltz will have multiple duties on Monday.
Sophomore Nick Ferrara is still battling a groin injury, and Baltz handled all of the field goal duties during today's practice.
"Still waiting for Nick to heal up," Friedgen said. "We'll see where he's at."
Friedgen said there was reason to be optimistic about Baltz if he's pressed into kicking duty for the first time in college. Baltz was perfect on the day, and Friedgen said the senior is "pretty consistent" from the 25-yard line.
If that's the case, Baltz's range would be at least 42 yards, which isn't bad for an emergency option in case injury or ineffectiveness prohibits Ferrara from playing.
