From the looks of things, it will be a dreary, wet day.
And cold --- or at least relative to what folks in the Baltimore-Washington corridor have grown accustomed to of late --- with the possibility of plenty of rain, too.
It's almost like the start of college basketball season had to be preceded by weather shifting things into winter-like conditions.
As it turns out, today is a semi-official start to Maryland's season. Media day is this afternoon in College Park. The first practice is tomorrow. And away things go.
Gary Williams will face the media around 2:45 p.m., with plenty of tweeting emanating from @D1scourse. By 2:49, Greivis Vasquez, Eric Hayes, Landon Milbourne and last year's second round NCAA tournament loss will probably all receive their first mention of the season.
Of course, that's all in the past for the Terrapins, who have an interesting collection of old (two starters plus seniors Adrian Bowie, Dino Gregory and Cliff Tucker back) and new (five freshmen plus a junior college transfer) to work with this season.
But this is merely the start.
CAA media day is Tuesday in Arlington.
ACC media day is Wednesday in Charlotte, N.C.
And there will probably be a random intrasquad scrimmages or two leading into exhibition openers in the first week of November.
In short, it's basketball season --- and there will be plenty to analyze and scrutinize in the weeks and months to come.
