Maryland coach Mark Turgeon offered a bit of a surprise in Saturday's starting lineup for the Terrapins' conference opener.
Forward Jake Layman will make his second start of the season, getting the nod at small forward. Nick Faust will come off the bench.
Layman has played better since returning from Christmas break, scoring seven points against Delaware State and logging a season-best 23 minutes against IUPUI. Faust had started 21 of Maryland's last 22 games dating back to last season. He's averaging 9.8 points.
Virginia Tech also made a lineup tweak, inserting Joey van Zegeren at forward over C.J. Barksdale. It is the first career start for van Zegeren.
