STATE COLLEGE, Pa. --- With a little time before tipoff, it seemed like a good time to bring back the Food For Thought feature.
Tonight's pregame meal was thankfully not found in a press room at Bryce Jordan Center, but rather in the heart of State College at a local establishment.
You can check out the the Fraser Street Deli's website here (814-234-1918, 109 South Fraser Street).
You can also check out the tasty treat I had for dinner below.
That, friends, is the O.J. McDuffie (like everything on the menu, it's named after a figure of significance in the State College area). And trust me, it's even better than it looks.
The McDuffie includes chicken breast, bacon, cheddar, ranch, lettuce, tomato and red onions. Toss in a fine bowl of French onion soup and a drink, and and you've got a meal that'll work at just about any hour.
The thing is, it looks like just about everything else on the menu would be just as good. In a lot of ways, it was sad to have to walk out after only one sandwich (the panini in the background of the photo) was someone else's).
If there's even a remote suggestion, it's that for all the Penn State figures on the menu who have their own sandwich, there's no sign (yet) of new lacrosse coach Jeff Tambroni. But he's only been in State College for six months, and something tells me he'll be a big enough name in town soon enough.
In any case, the hospitality at the Fraser Street Deli was fantastic. It's been 10 years since I've visited Penn State, and this restaurant's presence alone makes me hope my next trip doesn't come after an equally long wait.
