There was at least some output from my ill-fated mini-vacation this week.
Namely, this story for CSNWashington on Virginia's progress in basketball early this season under coach Tony Bennett.
The Cavaliers upended Oregon 63-48 on Friday, a victory not filled with a ton of style points but emblematic of the way they'll need to play to continue winning as the season goes along.
Bennett's facing frontcourt injuries (Mike Scott and Will Sherrill) and some incredible inexperience (Virginia played a sophomore and four freshmen at times against the Ducks). But things look a lot better than expected on the outside, and the Cavaliers have a decent set of names as early victims (Oklahoma, Minnesota, Virginia Tech, Oregon). Even if Oklahoma and Oregon aren't particularly strong, Virginia is doing well --- and Bennett warrants some credit for helping to make that happen.
