As some players are coming in via signing day, others might be headed out of Maryland's program. It is, in college football, the natural course of things.
There were a couple obvious names, based on time in the program and playing time, who seemed like possibilities to depart. The highest-profile of the bunch was tailback Morgan Green, though Ralph Friedgen indicated the veteran could be back for his fifth season.
"Morgan could graduate this summer," Friedgen said. "Kind of where I had it with him is I said 'Why don't you come out this spring and see what you can do. If you look like you can help us and you want to stay, fine. If you don't look like you can help us, go ahead and graduate. I think he's interested in going to Towson, and I'm OK with that."
Green has run for 126 yards and three touchdowns on 32 carries at Maryland, and was increasingly lost in a crowded backfield last year. Da'Rel Scott, Davin Meggett, Gary Douglas, Caleb Porzel and D.J. Adams all return this season, so the opportunities for the oft-injured senior could be limited.
Green played mostly on special teams as a junior.
One other name of note who could be leaving is defensive back Brandon Jackson-Mills, who has not played in four years in the program.
"Jackson-Mills I think is going to try to graduate," Friedgen said.
