Sophomore linebacker Avery Murray has left the Maryland football program, coach Ralph Friedgen said.
Friedgen said Murray, who made seven tackles in 10 games last season, departed for personal reasons.
Murray was expected to be the top backup at middle linebacker to Alex Wujciak. Sophomore Ryan Donohue is also a backup to the all-conference pick from a year ago.
Friedgen said the Terps would see how freshman David Mackall does at middle linebacker during camp. Mackall, who arrived in January after a semester at prep school, played at strong-side linebacker during the spring.
Can you provide some perspective - are all these departures normal, or is it getting worse?
And are we at a point yet where we can call this a more systemic issue of the Fridge era in the past few years?

Ckstevenson ---
Id say departures come for all reasons --- academic, personal, whatever.
This seems like its different than the guys skating on thin ice with classes. Murrays case is probably more isolated.

Hi Patrick,
Do we know what the personal reasons are? And is he still enrolled? Is there any hope he will return? He could have helped us, especially in a year or two!
