Ralph Friedgen closed out his post-practice chat with reporters with a request for a plug for the return of his breakfast series. He was in a pretty good mood (when he was asking for whom all the reporters in his office he did not know worked for and jokingly asked me, I replied "the blog of doom" to his amusement.)
Anyway, after a one-year hiatus, the breakfasts at Maryland's Inn and Conference Center are back. Friedgen will speak at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow to whatever souls opt to brave to outskirts of Hurricane Earl's windy conditions.
"We've got some special new things, some thing you're going to love," Friedgen said.
"You going to provide any previews of that now?" I asked.
"I'd give it away, then you wouldn't want to come," Friedgen replied.
Well, maybe. But there will be food there, which is more than anyone can say about most Maryland events the media can find its way into, so it's got that going for it.
"I'll try to liven things up and have some fun and get some excitement going. ...," Friedgen said. "[It's] 7 a.m. on Friday, my day to sleep in. I'm there. How tough are you, Patrick?"
"You'll have your answer on 7 a.m. on Friday," I answered. Oh, how many times has a coach told me I'll have an answer when kickoff or tip-off approaches?
"I want you to be a member of the MGN, too," Friedgen joked.
And I want a million dollars. As the saying goes, you can't bleed a turnip.
But assuming everything goes right (i.e. I respond to my alarm clock), you might see Friedgen in the front of the room and me in the back of it. Here's guessing that's not the "special new thing" Ralph has in mind.
I think we can all agree that it's worth braving hurricane conditions for some mini muffins.
