Just heard from a Maryland football spokesman, who alerted me to a severe error on my part from yesterday.
Longtime offensive line coach Tom Brattan is still under consideration to be retained for new coach Randy Edsall's staff, the spokesman said. Defensive coordinator Don Brown and wide receivers coach Lee Hull were retained yesterday.
There was, to be blunt, a misinterpretation of Maryland's announcement on my end. It was an honest error, not a malicious or intentional one, but an error nonetheless and worthy of an explanation both to readers, who have every reason to expect more from me and this site, and to Brattan, whose job status is not something that was ever intended to be toyed with.
Regardless of what was reported elsewhere, it should be right here and it wasn't. For that I offer my apologies.
think you could teach your colleagues at the Post how to own up to mistakes?

Patrick, Asside from possibly Coach Brattan, will any of the other coaches be retained (beyond of coarse coaches Brown and Hull) both of whom were important to stay and Brown was critical?

Tom Dienart at Rivals/Yahoo is reporting Brattan as a finalist for OL coach at Indiana. I'd like to see Brattan stay at MD. He has done a pretty good job over the years at MD, and he has really good ties to the Tidewater VA area for recruiting.
Football Rumor Mill tweets Ralph has inquired about the OC position at Clemson. Think Ralph is still really pissed about being fired?! It looks like he desperately wants to coach at Byrd again against MD!

I wish Ralph would just retire either to his home on Lake Oconee or to the one in Charleston. He did a lot of good things for the program, but he is not getting any younger or smaller for that matter. The coaching change did not go down the way it should have I (and I like Edsal)but he had his day of beating up on the Terps when he was the OC at GT. No true Terp could ever want to be part of Clemson..

I agree. Ralph will only sour his legacy by going to Clemson.

I like Brattan very much and I think he'd be an excellent coach to retain.
Any updates?

Brattan is a stud coach who takes underachievers and has them play consistently. Definately a keeper!
